My Medicine Cabinet

My mission today is to give you a glimpse of my medicine cabinet during this REALLY nasty cold and flu season. We do things as naturally as we can. We use homeopathic remedies whenever we can. So I just wanted to share with you some of the things we use. If you haven't bought into the flu shot, to each their own I say; there are alternatives. Many people are finding that out this season.

prevention

In my mind, prevention is key. You need to start early building up your immune system. Elderberry is my go to for that. I have made my own syrup, I have bought it as well. It has been known to treat the flu in third world countries. It is pretty easy to come by if you get it early enough in the season. A tablespoon a day keeps the germs away!

I also recommend taking vitamin C supplements. Viva Naturals Premium Non-GMO Vitamin C, 1000mg, 250 Veg Caps with Bioflavonoids and Rose Hips is a really good brand. The Rose Hips helps with the absorption of the vitamin.

Another thing to start taking is Vitamin D. The darker days of winter

make it difficult to get the necessary amounts from the sun. In general, most people get deficient in this vitamin, and the foods we have available are not always sufficient to cover our bodies needs. So a good supplement can’t hurt.

You make the call that is best for you and your family.

natural remedies

If you find yourself in the throws of the flu or cold, there are natural ways to treat this as well. I know there is some controversy over the medicine available for the flu. Thankfully my family hasn’t had the flu in years so I can’t really speak to that. I will say this, whether or not you choose the flu shot or to take the medication they provide if you get the flu, your best action is to do some research. Do your own digging and find out everything you can. You make the call that is best for you and your family. If you want to take a more natural approach, I can offer some suggestions.

When the flu or cold strikes mine or my friends' homes, I usually go directly to Sprouts and stock up on some Boiron Homeopathic pellets. Oscillococcinum became very popular this season. I usually try and keep this on hand throughout the winter.

Chestal Cold and Cough Syrup is pretty amazing and very tasty. Sinusalia is our other go to for nasal congestion due to cold or allergies. These are just a FEW, I mean a very few, of the things I keep around.

I will say this, allergies hit us pretty good this winter with it being so warm and then cold and wet. We tried to let things run their course and ended up with some nasty colds and coughs. We immediately took action using the Chestal and Sinusalia and we were able to escape bronchitis and any ear or sinus infections. The best testimony I have is my own, I can’t speak for others, but we have had great success.

Lastly, NEVER underestimate the power of a home cooked chicken soup. I add ginger to mine and it is amazing!

Again, I respect everyone's choices to take care of their families as they see fit. If anyone is wanting more information on taking the natural approach, I am always around and willing to talk your ear off about all the information I have.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a doctor, nor claim to have all the answers. I am just a momma on the hunt for good, pure medicines to take care of my family the best way I can. I have spent countless hours studying and love sharing my findings.
